What is Lipedema

Lipedema is a chronic, progressive condition marked by the abnormal and symmetrical accumulation of fat, most commonly in the legs and sometimes in the arms. It is often associated with pain, tenderness, swelling, and easy bruising. Genetic factors and hormonal changes are believed to contribute to its development. Although frequently mistaken for obesity, lipedema is a distinct medical condition and cannot be fully managed through diet and exercise alone. Treatment approaches may include conservative therapies such as shock wave therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, and surgery.
